Hazal Bayar's interest in cinema began with watching horror films on VHS tapes, and over time, this passion for horror films became a part of her life as an academic field of study. She completed her undergraduate education on Advertising. During this time, she won the award for the best international documentary at the Adana Golden Boll Film Festival with a documentary she directed. Right after her undergraduate studies, she pursued a master's degree in post-production editing in the UK at Bournemouth University. She participated in the London Independent Film Festival with a feature-length film titled "Miracle Grow," which she edited and worked as assistant director. She earned her PhD degree in Art, Philosophy, and Critical Thought at the European Graduate School in Switzerland. During her studies, she became acquainted with psychoanalysis and wrote her thesis on 'mad women,' a fundamental source of nourishment in horror cinema. Between 2013 and 2016, she worked as a research assistant in the Department of Cinema and Digital Media at Izmir University of Economics. She directed a horror film titled "Orchid and Wasp" with the students of the department, which was screened at film festivals in Italy, Romania, and Mexico, and received an award at the Spotlight Horror Film Festival in the US. Since 2017, she has been working as a faculty member in the same department, teaching courses such as Psychoanalysis and Cinema, Contemporary World Cinema, Digital Filmmaking and Experimental Cinema.
