As a student at the MFA digital media program in The Film School of Tel Aviv University I was looking for an idea for my graduation project. The film Gruf & Me combines many fields that interest me: narrative, live action video with 2D and 3D animation and complex post production. The challenge was to draw and animate Gruf digitally while maintaining the rough and grungy look of original street art. The film took 3 years to complete. It was shot in south Tel Aviv, at an area that is less known to tourists. It’s a shabby neighborhood filled with Graffiti on the walls. An entire block where the first scene of the film was shot, has been demolished to make room for a new building a short time after the shooting ended.
