His film career included notable performances in Stanley and Livingstone (1939) opposire Spencer Tracy, The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939) with Charles Laughton, Victory (1940), The Ghost of Frankenstein (1942) alongside Lon Chaney Jr. and Bela Lugosi, Les Misérables (1935) King Solomon's Mines (1937), The Keys of the Kingdom (1944), The Winslow Boy (1948), Alfred Hitchcock's Rope (1948) with Jimmy Stewart and Richard III (1955) starring Laurwnce Olivier, The Ten Commandments (1956) starring Chartlon Heston.
