Nothing Sacred (1937) is a screwball comedy film directed by William A. Wellman and starring Carole Lombard and Fredric March. The film follows the story of Hazel Flagg (Lombard), a young woman from Vermont who is falsely diagnosed with radium poisoning. When a New York City reporter, Wally Cook (March), hears about Hazel's story, he travels to Vermont to interview her. Hazel, who is not actually dying, agrees to go to New York with Wally in order to become famous. Nothing Sacred is a hilarious and heartwarming film that skewers the media and the public's fascination with death and dying. Lombard gives a star-making performance as Hazel, and March is her perfect foil. The supporting cast is also excellent, with standout performances from Charles Winninger and Walter Connolly. The film is beautifully shot in Technicolor, and the direction is sharp and witty. The screenplay by Ben Hecht and Ring Lardner Jr. is sharp and witty, and has some of the most quotable lines in film history
