In a newly founded penal settlement in late-1700s Australia, convicts and their guards are forced into close quarters where survival is uncertain and authority is constantly tested. As the community tries to build a life from nothing, questions of love, faith, justice, and morality collide with harsh daily realities and life-or-death consequences.
