A Crash Course in Baby Sign Language
Censor rating: TV-G
Documentary, Comedy, Short, Educational
Duration: 0:04:21
Story:
Teaching your baby basic sign language before s/he can speak has brilliant advantages! Not only can I see his confidence when he can communicate something to me that he cannot yet speak, and it's so fun for me to have a little window into his mind and see what he's thinking. Not to mention, it reduces both our frustration when he can tell me what he wants. And it's fun! We both enjoy it!
Here are just a few signs to share with you, mostly from the 14-15 month age range, although he started doing basic signs around 12 months (he did his first ever sign around 8-9 months). It seems every day now he does a new one and he learns them very fast now, so there are plenty more beyond this. If you're a true ASL signer, you'll recognize they won't be perfect (and there are some that may not be true ASL), but they allow valuable communication to occur. And it's sure cute! Enjoy!
